Reinvesting in Tanadoona

A Capital Campaign

Vision for a central gathering place at Camp Tanadoona.Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council is excited to announce the launch of a $1.5 million, three-year capital campaign to reinvest in Camp Tanadoona. Camp Tanadoona is, and will remain, the heart and soul of Camp Fire. Through this campaign we will modernize and expand our facilities at Tanadoona. We are committed to providing better camp experiences for youth and their families by making strategic investments in Camp Tanadoona.

We feel a moral obligation to the youth of Minnesota to open our front gate, so they have an opportunity to experience this magical place we call Camp Tanadoona.  A place where they can learn new skills, make new friends, experience nature, and reach their potential.

Stepping up to the Challenge

Through the generous support of a silent donor, we are already halfway to our goal of $1.5 million! This donor pledged a matching grant of $750,000 that we will match, dollar for dollar. Over the next three years, in partnership with friends and supporters, we will make significant changes at camp – and more importantly, for the youth we serve. We hope you'll join us in investing in our youth’s future. We will reach out to our friends, supporters and the community in the coming months to invite you to be part of our capital campaign for Camp Tanadoona.

Explore Our Vision for Camp Tanadoona

Vision for Camp Tanadoona - detail of the master planThrough numerous visioning sessions with members of the Tanadoona community, we have developed a long-term vision for Camp Tanadoona. Camp Tanadoona will remain rustic – and yet integrate state of the art green technology. We will invest in our day camp facilities and build a Camp Fire administrative office. The dining hall will receive a much deserved renovation. And the old Lind Mansion will be replaced with a new Lind Lodge where children will learn and adults can gather.
See the vision.

As we reach out to our clients, neighbors and alumni to share our vision for Camp Tanadoona and seek their input, we are met with an enormous amount of support. In fact, with generous support from donors, corporate supporters, and service organization volunteer groups, we have already begun making significant improvements at Camp Tanadoona.

Recent Completed Projects

  • replaced the roof of Bluebird Lodge, one of our few winterized buildings;
  • demolished and removed Corona Lodge;
  • laid 400 feet of water line;
  • replaced the Dining Hall’s furnace and Bluebird Lodge’s water heater with more energy efficient units;
  • replaced well and water pipes; and
  • erected a new Camp Tanadoona sign on Highway 41.

Corona Restroom Renovation

Thanks to an incredible partnership with FCA Construction and Life Time Fitness Foundation, we recently completed renovation of the Corona Restroom. Life Time and their partnering companies donated labor, materials, and their expertise to the project.

Camper Cabin Improvements

PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Minneapolis office spent its June 2010 day of service at Camp Tanadoona. In addition to many other projects, PwC donated new canvases for our camper cabins. The new canvases will be installed this summer.

Program Enhancements

With contributions from our generous individual donors, we also recently installed a giant swing and geocaching course that campers began using this camping season, totaling approximately $10,000.
